He knew he was a dangerous individual, one who was going to do whatever it took to make a point. He never revealed his identity, but claimed to simply be a "man with a plan." Batman had decided early on that the Joker's presence in Gotham wasn't going to be a regular thing.Batman then showed up at the Joker's hideout one night and confronted him with batarangs and an army of bat-robots. The two were evenly matched till the end, when Bruce managed to toss his adversary off the building they were fighting on. In retaliation, the Joker grabbed the bat-rope with his bare hands and managed to swing away from Batman after he fell. This was not their first encounter though. The Joker had been stalking Batman for years, and he would prove his patience once again as the two met face-to-face for the last time.The Joker was upset over losing his power over Gotham City as a result of the earthquake, so he decided to cause as much chaos as possible. He began by detonating bombs in several places and then inviting every criminal in town to a meeting at Wayne Tower. Once they got there, he stole all their property and told them to hand it over or die. This meant that criminals would have no place to hide and that they would be easy targets for Batman's forces. However, many of them accepted his deal anyway because no one wanted to be seen as a coward or a fool. This had left Gotham City with no real protection against the Joker's men.Batman confronted the Joker after he managed to get rid of all of his former gang members by giving them bomb-detectors on their necks. He told him that the only way they could get peace was if he wasn't around anymore. Batman also gave him a two-part ultimatum for him to either give up crime immediately or face "the ultimate punishment." Even though this was just one of the many tricks he had up his sleeve, Batman realized that this particular choice would be one of his last ones in Gotham City. The Joker then went about causing maximum damage in Gotham City. He sent letter bombs to corrupt judges, arranged for destructive clowns to attack downtown buildings and he started blowing up his former henchmen. He then set up a giant display of explosives at the zoo, further destroying those buildings that were already damaged.For the next six months, Batman and the Joker continued their battle against each other. Batman eventually got rid of all of Joker's men and he even took out every last bomb the clown made before it exploded. The Joker tried everything he could think of to make himself known, but it wasn't until he took control of a nuclear power plant that Batman finally found him.
