He was also a scholar in fields such as Rhetoric and the History of Culture. His publications include: "The Panegyrici Latini: A History of Selected Latin Orations in Two Volumes" (1982); "The Orator as Artist: The Rhetorical Theory and Practice of Renaissance Humanism" (1986); "A Bibliography of Classical Education: Schools and Instruction from the Beginnings to the Sixth Century AD" (1991).Nathaniel B. Smith (1940-2016) is an American scholar who taught at Vanderbilt University from 1966 to 2004. He was a member of numerous international scientific and cultural organizations such as The American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1986- ); The Medieval Academy of America (1994- ); the Society for the Study of Early Modern Women (2000- ); and the Renaissance Society of America (1990- ).
